It Had to Be You . . .

It had to be you. It had to be you.
I've wandered around,
and finally found somebody who,
could make me be true . . .
could make me be blue . . .
And, even be glad just to be sad thinkin' of you...

Some others I've seen - might never be mean.
Might never be cross . . .
Or, try to be boss . . .
But, they wouldn't do.
For nobody else gave me a thrill . . .
With all your faults I love you still.
It had to be you. Wonderful you.
It had to be you...

'Cause nobody else gave me a thrill . . .
With all your faults - I love you still . . .
And it had to be you. It just had to be you.
It had to be you...

"Baby, Come To Me" / PATTI AUSTIN & JAMES INGRAM

[Patti:]

Thinkin' back in time
When love was only in my mind
I realize
Ain't no second chance
You've got to hold on to romance
Don't let it slide
There's a special kind of magic in the air
When you find another heart that needs to share

[Both:]
Baby, come to me
Let me put my arms around you
This was meant to be
And I'm oh so glad I found you
Need you ev'ry day
Gotta have your love around me
Baby, always stay
'Cause I can't go back to livin' without you

[James:]
Spendin' ev'ry dime
To keep you talkin' on the line
That's how it was
And all those walks together
Out in any kind of weather
Just because
There's a brand-new way
Of looking at your life
When you know that love
Is standing by your side

[Both:]
Baby, come to me
Let me put my arms around you
This was meant to be
And I'm oh so glad I found you
Need you ev'ry day
Gotta have your love around me
Baby, always stay
'Cause I can't go back to livin' without you

[James:]
The nights can be cold
There's a chill to ev'ry evenin'
When you're all alone

[Patti:]
Don't talk anymore
'Cause you know that I'll be here
To keep you warm
(Oh, darling keep me warm)

[Both:]
Baby, come to me (come to me)
Let me put my arms around you
This was meant to be (my love)
And I'm oh so, glad I found you
(Oh, so glad I found you)
Need you ev'ry day (ev'ry day)
Gotta have your love around me
(Gotta have you)
Baby, always stay

[Patti:]
'Cause I can't go back to livin' without you

[Both:]
Come to me
(Let me put my arms around you)
Let me put my arms around you
This was meant to be
(Hey, I need you ev'ry day, baby)
And I'm oh, so glad I found you
Need you ev'ry day
Gotta have your love around me
(Gotta have you and I want you to stay)
Baby, always stay

[James:]
'Cause I can't go back to livin' without you

[Both:]
Come to me (come to me)
Let me put my arms around you
(Love me, love me, baby)
This was meant to be
And I'm oh so glad I found you....

"Haven't Met You Yet" / Michael Buble

I'm not surprised, not everything lasts
I've broken my heart so many times I stopped keeping track
Talk myself in, I talk myself out
I get all worked up then I let myself down

I tried so very hard not to lose it
I came up with a million excuses
I thought, I thought of every possibility

And I know some day that it’ll all turn out
You'll make me work so we can work to work it out
And I promise you kid that I give so much more than I get
I just haven't met you yet

I might have to wait, I’ll never give up
I guess it's half timin' and the other half's luck
Wherever you are, whenever it's right
You'll come outta nowhere and into my life

And I know that we can be so amazin'
And baby your love is gonna change me
And now I can see every possibility

Somehow I know that it’ll all turn out
You'll make me work so we can work to work it out
And promise you kid I'll give so much more than I get
I just haven't met you yet

They say all’s fair in love and war
But I won’t need to fight it
We'll get it right and we'll be united

And I know that we can be so amazin'
And bein' in your life is gonna change me
And now I can see every single possibility

And someday I know it'll all turn out
And I'll work to work it out
Promise you kid I’ll give more than I get

Oh you know it'll all turn out
And you'll make me work so we can work to work it out
And promise you kid to give so much more than I get yeah
I just haven't met you yet

I just haven't met you yet
Oh promise you kid to give so much more than I get
I said love love love love love love love
I just haven't met you yet

My Reflection . . .

This repaired vessel
is finally overflowing with the love of the world . . .
My love cannot stay in the cup of everlasting peace & grace . . .

Every image, every heart, every giver of light makes my heart sing.
It hits notes I cannot even dream of hitting with my own voice . . . .
My allies in love hear its call & return the tone . . .

Every time I feel the tears stream down my face I smile,
Because a part of me knows
the call my heart sent out has been answered
and has been reflected back to me . . .
only for me to be the mirror & reflect it out back to the world.

My Wish To The Universe . . .

I want and need a man who understands and appreciates the true gift that I am.

I am worthy of such a man.

He needs to know and believe that he is the man for me.

He needs to be for me and only me when he shows up in my life, because the energy required for life with me must be 100% or above.

I expect to be his and only his when he is ready for me, so we both must be on even ground.

I am always cleaning house and I expect him to do the same.

His peaceful nature must complement and / or blend well with my own, as well as our sexual & intellectual energies.

I've been waiting for him for a long time, but I understand I've had some work to do before he could get here; before I could appreciate all that he can be . . . I needed to see me and love me better than anyone else could.

I know who is in here now and I love all of her, completely.

I am ready for him to love her too.

Good, Better, Best . . .

God answers 3 ways:

1.) He says yes and gives you what you want.

2.) He says no and gives us something better.

3.) He says wait and gives you the best.

Up & Out . . .

I had some very strong feelings about someone once . . . and I wrote them down. There came a point where I felt the person needed to hear it . . . so I eventually I got out of my way & shared them with him. Our relationship was better because of that. In fact, every person I've ever done that with, has left me with a beautiful lesson of trusting my instincts.

Expressing my self has nothing to do with being fearless . . . because I don't look forward to rejection any more than anyone else. Honestly, it drives me crazy to keep feelings & thoughts confined. If I don't tell the person in question, then I journal it --- but one way or another it needs to be exorcised. I don't need it living in my mind for too long. It needs to go where it belongs before it starts giving me a headache.

That is the simple truth of why I speak my mind, when I choose to do so. I like my sanity & I get no peace until I let whatever it is out.

"Halo" / Beyonce

Remember those walls I built
Well, baby they're tumbling down
And they didn't even put up a fight
They didn't even make up a sound

I found a way to let you in
But I never really had a doubt
Standing in the light of your halo
I got my angel now

It's like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin'
It's the risk that I'm takin'
I ain't never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace

You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won't fade away

I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo

Hit me like a ray of sun
Burning through my darkest night
You're the only one that I want
Think I'm addicted to your light

I swore I'd never fall again
But this don't even feel like falling
Gravity can't forget
To pull me back to the ground again

Feels like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin'
The risk that I'm takin'
I'm never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace

You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won't fade away

I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo
I can feel your halo halo halo
I can see your halo halo halo

Mirror, Mirror . . .

You are my proof of Magic in this life . . .
And a long-ago, Wish Come True.

Your Love gives me Strength,
While your Light fills me up with Hope.

I don't know how you did it,
But I'm so glad you did.

My Sight is clearer and my Thoughts are freer,
Because of you.

My Filter is absent because
You always appreciate my Truth . . .

And I spread my Wings and fly higher than I've ever dared to
Because I know, for certain, You are always with Me.

I have never been afraid
to be naked with you, on any level.

Because . . .

I have always been the Question,
And you have always been the Answer.

Sonnet 116 . . .

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixèd mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.[1]

–William Shakespeare

Sonnet 29 . . .

When in disgrace with Fortune and men's eyes,
I all alone beweep my outcast state,
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,
And look upon myself and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possess'd,
Desiring this man's art, and that man's scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least.
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee, and then my state,
Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate;
For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.

–William Shakespeare

Wants, Needs, Desires . . .

Most women know from the moment they see you, where you fit. No matter how much we may want to date casually like some guys, most of us eventually start feeling something for you . . . so if it seems like we are all over the board, it's because we have no time to waste before our heart takes over . . . because, we know it will.

Sometimes we don't really have much of a choice; our hearts get involved before we are even aware of it. Call it intuition, nesting, lust (& sometimes disgust) & what-have-you, we know what we want . . . we just don't always trust that feeling when it comes, especially when it shows its face so instantly. Surprise . . . we actually have doubt. Some of us are very logical creatures & this instinctual feeling doesn't always blend well with logic.

We want to know, be sure before we jump . . . but sometimes, logic be damned. We need to just do it, whatever "it" is. Life is all about experiences. I want no regrets, so, eventually, I do jump. ;o)

Verbal Foreplay . . .

If I told you I hadn't been kissed enough . . .

Would you rectify that for me? ;o)

How would you . . . kiss me?

Slowly, tenderly, passionately . . .

Sating every inch of my hunger for you.

Do you know, just the thought of your touch has me tingling . . .

Everywhere . . . every time.

================
================
================

Deep, hungry kisses.

Firm strokes, delicate touches.

Heavy breathing. Grunting. Moaning.

Twitching, flinching, grinding, groping.

No screaming, no talking.

Smiling, laughing . . .

If you're doing something good, trust me ---
I will let you know.

There will be NO faking of anything ---
unless it's a contest. ;o)

Why I Love You . . .

I love that all I have to do is think of you,
and I smile.

I love that I trust you so much,
that I can't help but be my complete self with you.

I love that when I'm sad & confused,
you take my hand . . . ever so softly.

I love that you make me laugh so hard,
my eyes water & stomach hurts . . . . every damn time.

I love that whenever I'm scared,
you carefully catch me before I fly away & hide.

I love that you want to share your thoughts & experiences with me.

I love that when I'm frisky,
you always make me twitchy.

I love that when I'm angry,
you encourage my fire, my beloved enabler.

I love that when I need to talk, you are always there to listen . . .
& when you need to talk, you let me be there for you.

I love that you maybe overwhelmed by the quantity,
but never the intensity.

I love that you enjoy the way my mind works.

I love that when you miss me and are happy to see me,
you never hesitate to show it.

I love that you provoke me to be the oddball that I am.

I love that you adore me, because I adore you, too.

I love that you spar creatively & consistently with me.

I love that when I say & do all these things,
you still want more & more.

I love that you see me, quite clearly.

I love all the little things you do ---
they add up like a never - ending savings account.

At the end of it all, I will always love you . . .
because I have also been well rewarded for my efforts.

No regrets, my dear . . . none at all.

Finding Balance . . .

I'm short & I'm thick. That part of my genes was inevitable . . . my maternal grandmother was a solid woman . . . but my paternal grandfather was a short man. I'm built like her, but short like him. My younger brother lucked out & got our maternal grandfather's height, so the thickness gets spread out a little.

We have always been healthy, active kids; I've never known a day my parents weren't active & I've always appreciated the foundation they instilled in us. Because of that, I know if I don't want to gain, I have to keep moving.

At my smallest, I'm built like a cello . . . I'm all legs & hips. Dance was my exercise foundation, & has helped me retain my strength & endurance, despite my weight gain. For that, I am grateful.

When I get stressed, I don't eat. When I get distracted, I miss meals. My last two years of high school were distracting & stressful . . . & my bad eating habits began there. My first two years of college were actually good; not having a car, I walked everywhere. Being on the meal plan forced me to eat consistently . . . so I never gained the "freshman 15".

I loved being my brother's sparring partner when he took karate as a child, so I took a class on campus. Fear of water? Took an aquatic fitness class. Interest in strength training? Took a weight training class. I went home that year, the same weight I left but the smallest & fittest I'd ever been in my whole life . . . and I loved it. Unfortunately, a year after that, my life got stressful again, & my fitness took a back seat.

My weight slowly crept up & physical chronic issues crept in as well, things that never bothered me as a youth: TMJ, asthma, hair loss. My job, after I graduated, was very physical, and I started to gradually lose again, but there was a problem. Money was tight, I wasn't handling my stress well & I was unintentionally starving myself. I lost a massive amount of weight, but it wasn't intentional & it wasn't healthy. In fact it was downright painful. I dropped 4 sizes, probably about 80 pounds, but at what cost? I learned some very important things about my body back then . . . and I never want to put it through that trauma ever again. I sacrificed nutrition for finance & I paid for it every day.

I needed to get a handle on what I was doing & why . . . so I did my "spring cleaning" from the inside out, first. I needed to find balance. Fix the emotional & everything else falls into place. Mental followed, then spiritual. All of it was a lesson in putting me first . . . I'm a caretaker at my core & I was doing myself a disservice, putting me last.

It has been a challenging yet rewarding journey . . . and my body is gradually reflecting that. I think my best lesson has been to not be so hard on myself. The baby steps are just as important as the large leaps forward.

Since then, I make better choices. I handle my stress better. I pace myself. I let people know when I need help. I meditate. I laugh more. I journal. I do yoga & belly dance when I can. I sketch. I work in my garden. I sing. I dug deep & cleared out all my bad habits, to the best of my ability. I have reasonable long term & short term, fun goals set out. Like I said in my first SP entry . . . I'm the happiest I've been in years & my body needs to reflect that. I'm ready to do the work & I'll do what it takes to get there, enthusiastically & patiently.

It's why this time around is so important. It's a permanent, good change. I'm conscious about everything I'm doing. It will take longer, but it will be healthier. When you know better, you do better . . . and I'm happy to say, I am there.

Our Personal Rhythm . . .

The end of Sommore's skit in Queens of Comedy provoked this entry years ago . . . but a series of questions I've been asking a friend recently provoked my need to re-visit one of my favorite posts.
======================

The lights dim as the mood is being set. We wait patiently for it. As the music starts, we find the pulse & inhibitions get abandoned for one's inner beat. The Temptress slowly wakes up. The body feels it, feet & hips falls in line with it & the most sublime energy flows . . . we are not thinking anymore, just feeling & enjoying the ride. The Seductress smiles. Every woman has a rhythm that is hers & hers alone . . . & music reconnects us to the vixen within . . . . & we like it. Freedom. Release. Fun. Always fun.

Unabashesd sexual presence. It's not a phrase you hear very often, but we were having a road trip Q & A, and the question of the hour provoked us to tell each other what we saw in each other. My friend revealed seeing that in me. I wasn't shocked or offended, but amused & grateful for his vivid way of describing things. I knew I had "it" in me, I just didn't know I reflected it enough for someone to notice. When a man friend chooses to be honest to her about her beauty, it can be a beautiful thing to a woman. We sometimes need our egos stroked too. We are so conditioned to not express our sensuality . . . . a natural part of who we are, but it cannot help but show up when we choose to dance.

Most women love to dance. We know the power we have to attract attention, and dancing will definitely attract an audience. Most men like to watch women dance. Some are adventurous enough to join us out there without throwing off our beat; those men we send a sincere thank you to. We respect a man willing to show us what he can do. Silly or sensual, we commend you . . . because we see way too many guys standing off to the side watching. Jump in & keep up with us without throwing us off & you can stay as long as you like.

~K~

The little things, continued . . .

Men are very action oriented. Doing something will get their attention quicker & linger much longer in the memory than words. For most. The special men in my life are very verbose as well as action oriented, so there are exceptions to the rule.

When I've taken the time to be my brother's karate partner when he's demonstrating a move, or stay up late with him working on a term paper (I was his live-action spellcheck that he didn't always appreciate in the moment . . .), or be the one who keeps a caretaker's watchful eye on our parents so he can explore the world, I never have to wonder how much he appreciates me. It shows in the way he looks at me, in the bear hugs he gives me, in the respect he shows me.

The little important intangible things are just as important to men as to women. I had a friend chide me one day because I stopped asking him how his day was. I thought I was being a pest, but from his reaction, I guess I wasn't. We don't always know these things, guys. Sometimes you have to tell us when we are doing a good job . . . because we need the feedback. We are not always as confident as we sometimes look. There is a little girl in there, wanting to please, wanting to make you happy.

The actions may be important to you more, but the words are just as important to us. When you don't say, sometimes you leave us in the dark & doubt begins to set in. We don't want to doubt you, we want to understand you, be proud of you, show you the respect & attention you deserve too. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet & tell us what you want us to know about you. Just a thought . . .

~K~

The little things . . .

This was an old post, in two parts, from a page a friend & I used to write in, together. I was recently re-reading posts & felt the need to have them here.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The little things . . .

One assumption is that women are more sentimental than men, but I truly beg to differ . . . we just talk about it more. I believe that everyone likes to be remembered & thought of & made to feel special. When I was a child, & didn't have an allowance yet, my brother & I would make simple gifts for our parents & each other. Majority of the time, I would write something heartfelt, my brother, on the otherhand, would make something. Bless his heart, even at such a young age, the heartfelt ideas he would come up with would amaze me . . . & they still do.

I remember a birthday where he gave me a chain with a nut (mind you, the chain was one of my own & to this day, I still don't know where he found that nut or what kind it is!). He had bored a hole in the nut ever so perfectly, spray painted it silver, threaded the chain through & wrote me a few words of love and encouragement. He didn't think it was much & wished it could've been so much more, but I thought it was priceless, the best gift he'd ever given me . . . he took the time to make something for someone he loved. To this day, I still have that gift in a special place & no matter how many more expensive gifts he's given me to date, his sentimental gifts are the ones I treasure every day of our relationship . . . especially the poem he wrote for me & recently recorded on my IPod.

I had another male friend just take my hand when I was hurting & confused . . . he didn't have to say a word. He just let me know he was there & that was enough for me. He didn't even know me that well, but he figured out how to reach my heart. Ladies, they may not always say it, but their actions speak volumes. Encourage their acts of kindness, gently. Don't critique it, just say thank you. There will be more creativity where that first came from if you learn to appreciate what is shown to you. Guys, on the other side of that thought, however you are able to show how you feel, please do not hold back. If you cannot say it, write it. If you cannot write it, make it. Gleaning from my friend's last commentary on size, when it comes to a gift, bigger is not always better. Small & sentimental go a lot further with a woman than big & expensive. You don't have to break the bank to show you care. Pay attention to what touches her heart.

She walks in beauty / Lord Byron

SHE walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that 's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light 5
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair'd the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face; 10
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow, 15
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

Dave Matthews Band / Love Of My Life

Where you are that's where I want to be
And through your eyes are all the things I want to see
In the night you are my dreams
You're everything to me

You're the love
Of my life
And the breath
In my prayers
Take my hand
Lead me there
What I need is you here

I can't forget the taste of your mouth
From your lips, the heavens pour out
I can't forget when we are one
You alone and I am free

Everyday, every night
You alone, are the love of my life

Everyday, every night
You, alone, are the love of my life

We go dancing in the moonlight
With the starlight in your eyes
We go dancing 'til the sunlight
You and me, we're gonna
Dance, dance, dance

In and Out of Time by Maya Angelou

The sun has come.
The mist has gone.
We see in the distance…
our long way home.
I was always yours to have.
You were always mine.
We have loved each other in and out of time.
When the first stone looked up at the blazing sun
and the first tree struggled up from the forest floor
I had always loved you more.
You freed your braids…
gave your hair to the breeze.
It hummed like a hive of honey bees.
I reached in the mass for the sweet honey comb there….
God…how I love your hair.
You saw me bludgeoned by circumstance.
Lost, injured, hurt by chance.
I screamed to the heavens….loudly screamed….
Trying to change our nightmares to dreams…
The sun has come.
The mist has gone.
We see in the distance our long way home.
I was always yours to have.
You were always mine.
We have loved each other in and out
in and out
in and out
of time.
